Lauren Southern

Lauren Cherie Southern[1] (15 June 1995)[2][3] is a "somewhat conservative"[4] volunteerist,[5] very libertarian-leaning[6] Canadian[7] commentator [8] who promotes traditionalism because she thinks it leads to happiness.[9] In an article titled "Rise of the Cultural Libertarians", Allum Bokhari of "Breitbart" called her a "cultural libertarian".[10] Lauren thinks there is more out there for young women than just twerking, breast augmentation and becoming a star on Instagram.[11] During an interview on 7 February 2017 with Brittany Pettibone and Tara McCarthy on the "Virtue of the West" show, Lauren said she fears she "could have to move to the States in an instant because of hate speach laws that just get cracked down in this country [Canada]", seeing how "a guy just got arrested for tweeting something about Islam".[12]

Background, identity and personal life

Family, ancestry and religion or lack of it

Either some or the entirety of Lauren's family is Danish.[13] She either has or once had a great-aunt named Inga, who once said: "If there's any justice in the world Justin Trudeau will be reincarnated as a female in Saudi Arabia."[14] Lauren's great-grandparents fled Denmark for Canada "during the war, they wanted to get away from the war after having their trucking company taken away, so they were sponsored by Danes in Alberta and brought over to Canada as kind of refugees quote unquote from the war in Europe", she says.[15]

Lauren took a DNA test, which says she 68% of her DNA stems from Western Europe, 19% Scandinavia, 10% the Iberian Peninsula, less than 1% South Asia and less than 1% Polynesia. She is 98% European.[16] The site she evidently took the test with was ancestry.com. She wants to taken another test "to compare the results", she says.[17]

On 20 January 2017, someone asked Lauren if she was a Christian, to which she responded that she was "searching".[18] In a tweet on 16 March 2016, she said that, although she is not Jewish, people had been tweeting things to her that she considered anti-Semitic.[19] On 22 May 2015, Lauren tweeted this:

Early life, education and start of career

Lauren's father always tried to get her to think on her own, asking her questions.[20] For example, on the subject of indigenous Americans, he might ask her something like: "Do you think that they had war and fights here before the settlers came to Canada, do you think that happened, Lauren, do you think it was a black-and-white situation?"[21] Originally, she was a political science major at the University of Fraser Valley in British Columbia, but dropped out after about two years because it was "a waste of money" and she "could learn more on" her own.[22][23] While she was studying, she had applied to be a military intelligence officer, but Ezra Levant of therebel.media asked her if she wanted to make a video. She decided to make the video, which went viral.[24] It was titled "Why I am not a feminist" and was published on YouTube on 8 April 2015.[25]

Gender change

In late 2016, Lauren decided to go through the process of getting her gender legally changed to male. After she did this, she said it "negatively impacts society" that one can change their gender so easily, because "it makes us as a whole give up our sense of honesty, objectivity and our respect for facts."[26] If a Leftist gets in an argument with her, there's a chance she will correct them if they call her a woman. At the DeploraBall on 19 January 2017, she told a protester to "check people's pronouns" when she accidentally misgendered her in a conversation. The protester said: "My apologies, I never would have known that [you're a man]."[27] This happened again on 15 April 2017 at Berkeley. An "anti-fascist" misgendered her calling her a b****, to which she replied that she was legally a man and that the protester was transphobic. The protester said: "Okay, well, all right, sorry, dude."[28] As a side note, the woman was arrested later that day.[29][30] She was caught on camera attacking Lauren after Lauren said: "She hates trannies."[31]

Diet

On 7 February 2017, Lauren said she had "been goin' Paleo lately".[32] She says: "I make fun of a lot of like the PETA-type people and like, but I actually have a lot of respect for vegans."[33]

Views

Politicians

Lauren says she "obviously" likes Marine Le Pen, Geert Wilders and Maxime Bernier.[34] She says she has no "concerns about Geert Wilders and Marine Le Pen being" National Socialists, adding that "they're quite far away from the Hitler end."[35] When asked whether there was "anything about parts of the Right, either Trump or Le Pen or any of these people that worries" her, she said: "The thing right now is it's such a like 'We need to go with this now or we are going to die' situation, right?"[36] Although she sees Maxime has a softer approach than, say, Geert, she nonetheless supports him because she feels the situation in Canada is a little different than the one seen in Europe and Canada isn't bordered by a Third World country.[36] On 23 March 2017, she posted a picture of herself with Maxime Bernier on Twitter.[37]

The state and crypto-currency

On 27 February 2017,[38][39] Lauren spoke[40] at a conference called Anarchapulco in Acapulco, Mexico.[41][42] Despite this, she doesn't identify as an anarchist.[43] At Anarchapulco, Adam Kokesh told her that he could not imagine someone as smart as her not becoming an anarchist within "a year or two"[43] and asked her, among other the things, the question: "Why aren't you an anarchist yet?"[44] One thing she said was: "I would love to live in a world where we have no government at all."[45] Another thing she said was:

[T]he biggest threat I see to freedom right now are the globalist institutions that exist, the UN, the EU, the state trying to go further and further away from the individual, take away our power further and further away and right now I think that honestly -- I know a lot of people are going to get mad -- that advocating nationalism is the best way to communicate to people that we need to pull away from these larger globalist institutions.[46]

In an interview with Dave Rubin on 2 March 2017, Lauren said that she sees "socialism as super utopian" and the idea of a "white ethnostate -- in America, specifically -- as super utopian as well". She finds the argument of the French identitarian movement that "France belongs to the French people" "far more fascinating than the ones in Canada and America arguing for ethnostates that are super utopian". She thinks that the argument that Denmark remain majority-Danish and Japan majority-Japanese is a "far more interesting argument than" the "Pepe, bring back the whites to power in America" argument.[47]

In a video she made on 6 June 2017, Lauren said:

Unlike most people that are into bitcoin, I'm not a full-out anarchist, although I like a lot of them, I just don't think it's pragamatic at the moment. I believe some minimal level of government is needed to preserve freedom and maintain borders, especially when competing against separate nation-states. However, I completely understand people who want to avoid taxes.[48]

The alt-right and whether she is an alt-rightist

Lauren says the alt-right is asking whether multiculturalism works and questions about racial differences and gender differences, questions that she says "aren't going to go away, no matter how much people try to bury them in the sand".[49] She has made at least two different statements about whether or not she is part of the alt-right. On 7 February 2017, she said there are some people who consider her alt-light and some, although fewer, who consider her alt-right, but she "can't really speak for them".[50] In a tweet on 25 August 2016, however, she seemed to be calling herself an alt-rightist (observe the Danish flag; as previously mentioned Lauren's great-grandparents were Danish):

Protests of SlutWalk protests

On 7 June 2015,[51] Lauren protested the SlutWalk in Vancouver, Canada, holding up a sign that said "There is no rape culture in the West". She did this to protest what she calls 'radical feminism'.[52] According to "Metro", SlutWalks "are organised protests inspired by a 2011 comment by a Toronto police officer who said 'women should avoid dressing like sluts' if they wish to avoid sexual assault."[53] At the time, Lauren was a candidate with the Libertarian Party of Canada. There was backlash from the SlutWalk protesters, who contacted her party and talked them into dropping her as a candidate.[54] On 8 July 2015,[55] Lauren announced on her Twitter page that Tim Moen, the leader of the party, had reinstated her as a candidate.[56]

On 3 October 2015, Lauren protested the SlutWalk in Los Angeles with Milo Yiannopoulos. Lauren held a sign that said "Regret is not rape" and Milo held a sign that said "'Rape culture' and Harry Potter both fantasy".[57][58] She lived with Milo for about a week in LA.[59]

Friendship with would-be génodicaire Taleed Brown

On 25 February 2017, during her trip to Mexico to speak at Anarchapulco,[39][38] Lauren wrote in a tweet that she "ran into" a man in Mexico who uses the name That Guy T and the username @_ThatGuyT on Twitter.[60] His actual name is Taleed Brown.[61] Below this tweet, she posted a picture of herself with him.[60] Apparently he also attended Anarchapulco and posted a video of her speech there on Periscope.[39][38] Maybe she isn't aware of what his views are. During a conversation with someone using the username @Reinhard_Wolff on Twitter, Khaleed once tweeted: "Averages won't prevent me from commiting [sic] white genocide bro."[62] Lauren likes to engage in political discussion with Taleed on Twitter, so their friendship goes further than just posing together for one picture.[63]

2017

Anarchapulco

At the end of February 2017, Lauren spoke[64] at conference in Acapulco called Anarchapulco, whose stated goal was to evacuate the state.[65] Carey Wedler of theantimedia.org says that her "presence this year [2017] prompted at least one challenge from the audience questioning her continued belief in government and left some questioning why she was a featured speaker in the first place."[64] Carey thinks that Lauren "seemingly fits in more with the alt-right movement than peaceful anarchism that universally condemns the State."[64]

Departure from therebel.media

Lauren was with therebel.media until 9 March 2017, when she announced that she and therebel.media were going their separate ways on a video she posted on her YouTube channel and urged her fans to subscribe to the channel and keep up with what will be happening there, saying it was time for her to go independent.[66] She has said she "can't get into too much detail about what went down at Rebel".[67] She said she'd been meaning to do this for a while[68] and that her views can't be bought "with a paycheck or a condescending look".[69]

Visits White House Press Briefing Room

On 13 March 2017, Lauren Southern visited the White House Press Briefing Room, causing horror among "blue check mark liberals", she said.[70][71] The next day, the website mediamatters.org, a self-described "progressive research and information center dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation",[72] posted an article calling her an "'Alt-Right' Media Troll", with "alt-right" in quotes, as if doubting that the alt-right existed or that "alt-right" were the true name of a movement.[71]

Book

Lauren is the author of the book "Barbarians: How Baby Boomers, Immigrants, and Islam Screwed My Generation".[73]
