Milo Yiannopoulos

From ency.pub

Milo Yiannopoulos (born Milo Hanrahan, 18 October[1] 1984,[2] Athens, Hellenic Republic[3]) is an alt-lightist[6] public speaker[7] who was formerly[8] a senior editor for "Breitbart News".[9] The mainstream media has been known to categorise him as an alt-rightist.[10] The alt-rightist Anthime Gionet was once Milo's manager.[11] Milo was raised in a village in Kent, UK.[2] On one occasion he wore a shirt with the words "WHITE MALE" emblazoned on it, which would suggest he considers himself white.[12] He is Roman Catholic.[5] He has used the pen name Milo Andreas Wagner.[13] In an article titled "Rise of the Cultural Libertarians", Allum Bokhari of "Breitbart" called him a "cultural libertarian", but he also said: "I suspect he would balk at any association with libertarianism."[14] During a conversation with Alex Jones on 8 February 2017,[15] Milo said: "Well, I suppose I'm a cultural libertarian. I think people should be able to say, do and be anything."[16] He then went on to say that economically he's "probably conservative" and that on foreign policy he's "probabably, I don't know, sort of nationalist-protectionist" and for "strong borders".[16]

Early life and education

Milo's father is Hellene, his mother German. He was brought up by his paternal grandmother, a Catholic Hellene who was raised outside of the Hellenic Republic.[17] According to "Forward", his "maternal grandmother is Jewish, so according to Jewish law, he is, too."[18]

When he became gay, he dumped a girlfriend who became a heroine addict, cut herself at some point, overdosed and died.[19] The "Evening Standard" says: "It has been reported that Yiannopoulos’ mother was unhappy when he came out as gay, leading to the change in his surname."[2] He changed his surname from Hanrahan to Yiannopoulos, "a surname taken from his Greek grandmother".[20] He lost his "virginity in an interracial fivesome with a drag queen"[21] when he was 13[22] years of age.

According to "New Statesman", Milo attended Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys, located in Canterbury, Kent, UK, "until he was expelled".[20][23] He is a college dropout.[24] His first choice for college was Cambridge, but he screwed up his A levels (advanced level examinations), was left with Manchester as a second choice, and then got depressed and gave up.[4] He considers this his biggest failure.[25]

According to the magazine "Tablet",[26] there is a picture of Milo wearing a German Iron Cross on Tumblr when he was a younger man.

"Eskimo Papoose"

In 2007,[20] Milo wrote a book, "Eskimo Papoose", using the pen name Milo Andreas Wagner, which the "Houston Press" claims has work from Britney Spears, Mariah Carey and Tori Amos interpolated in it.[13] He has said the work is satirical.[20]

"The Kernel"

In November 2011, Milo launched a blog called "The Kernel", which used the domain name kernelmag.com, "with the intention of 'fix[ing] European technology journalism'".[27] In 2013, it was alleged in the UK that Milo had not paid people he had hired to work on or were contributors on "The Kernel".[28] According to "New Statesman", one of those people was Jason Hesse, who "won a high court order for unpaid wages in 2013."[20] "New Statesman" says that "[a]fter the Kernel was sold to German investors, others were also paid."[20] Six months after German investors bought "The Kernel", it was sold to "The Daily Dot" "for an undisclosed sum".[27] Stephen Pritchard, a journalist, said he lent Milo £3000 interest-free on condition that he would get his money back by January 2013. "The Guardian" alleges that when the deadline passed, he was told not to discuss this.[28]

15 July 2015 interview with Gavin McInnes

On 10 March 2017, Milo conversed with Gavin McInnes during Episode 9 of "The Gavin McInnes Show".[29] In the clip, Milo says he has a problem with people who "suddenly remember they were abused 20 years later and suddenly decide that it was a problem" and calls them "whingeing, selfish brats". A little later, he says: "I mean, I wouldn't give nearly such good head if it weren't for my priest." "The Reagan Battalion" tweeted out a video showing part of this conversation on 10 March 2017.[30]

30 September 2015 interview with Joe Rogan and fallout

On 21 February 2017, Milo resigned from "Breitbart News"[31] over comments he made about underage sex on "The Drunken Peasants" show and in a replay of a replay of a video titled "Joe Rogan Experience #702 - Milo Yiannopoulos", which showed Milo being interviewed by Joe Rogan on 30 September 2015.[32] Kevin Logan[33] used Joe's video to make a video titled "Milo Yiannopoulos: Hypocrite and pedophile protector",[34] which was replayed on "The Drunken Peasants" show and which the hosts of "The Drunken Peasants" show were asking him questions about.[33] In the press conference following his resignation from "Breitbart", Milo defended himself saying that in the "Drunken Peasants" video, which was titled "Milo Yiannopoulos - PaulsEgo - TheAmazingAtheist - and More! DPP #193",[35] he had said that he "felt the age of consent was, quote, about right, unquote"[36] (and this is true, he did say this)[37] and that the media "held this story back, they held the footage back -- the footage has been out there in the wild for over a year -- because they don't care about victims, they don't care about children."[38] A 16-year-old Canadian girl sent the video from "The Druken Peasants" show to the Twitter account of the blog "The Reagan Battalion", which tweeted it out on 19 February 2017.[33][39] This led to the Conservative Political Action Conference cancelling a speech Milo was going to make, Simon & Schuster cancelling a $250,000 book deal with Milo to publish his book "Dangerous" and Milo resigning from "Breitbart".[40][41][33] "The Drunken Peasants" ridiculed CNN and called it "fake news" for saying the video had "emerged", when the video had been viewed about 250,000 times long before the 16-year-old girl spoke with "The Reagan Battalion".[42][43]

In the video in which he spoke with Joe Rogan, Milo said he lost his "virginity in an interracial fivesome with a drag queen" when he was around 13.[44] During a press conference after his resignation from "Breitbart", he said he was exactly 13 when he lost his virginity.[45] Among the things he was criticised for was that he spoke supportively of "relationships between younger boys and older men, the sort of coming-of-age relationships, the relationships in which those older men help those young boys to discover who they are and give them security and safety and provide them with love".[46][35] Another comment he was criticised for was: "And do you know what? I'm grateful for Father Michael,[46] I wouldn't give nearly such good head if it wasn't for him."[47][48] Father Michael was a singing tutor he gave oral sex[49] to when he was around 14[50] and refused to identify when he was pressed further by Joe Rogan.[51] He says he was "very definitely the predator" in both the interracial fivesome as well as the encounter with Father Michael.[52]

A little later in the interview with Joe, Milo says he "lived in Hollywood a while ago, briefly", and went to parties -- whose hosts he does not want to identify -- where there were "a lot of twinks taking drugs and having unsafe sex with older men and some of these boys were very young, desperate for a job". Some of the things he saw "beggar belief". When Joe asked him when that happened, he said "like, I don't know, 8 years ago", which would be around 2007.[53] These statements have also been the subject of much discussion.[54][55] He did not specify at any moment during the interview with Joe how old these young men were.

The 16-year-old Canadian girl who contacted the Reagan Battalion's identity has been kept secret by the media. The media has given her the fictitious name "Juia". Julia "defines herself as 'very socially liberal', but leans right on economics and foreign policy." She has said: "I see Milo as this embodiment of the awfulness you see over the past few years with the general tilt of millennial conservatism."[33] She says this "millennial conservatism", as she calls it, "has nothing to do with conservative ideology so much as it has with opposing the leftists, SJWs, and so on and so forth."[33] Julia's and her family are "dismayed by reactionaries taking over the conservative movement and especially the alt-right".[33] When Julia heard Milo was scheduled to "speak at CPAC, she was appalled".[33] She didn't have many Twitter followers, so she decided to look around for a Twitter account that might tweet out the "Drunken Peasants" video she had seen. She found the Twitter account of "The Reagan Battalion" and saw them tweeting out videos of Milo "making offensive comments", so she told them there was "more damaging stuff out there."[33] She then sent them the "Drunken Peasants" video, which they tweeted out. It soon started getting lots of retweets and Ana Navarro and Jake Tapper, among others, saw it. [33][39]

"The Reagan Battalion" tweeted out a five-and-a-half-minute clip of the "Drunken Peasants" video starting from here:

Anarchapulco

In February 2016,[56] Milo spoke at a conference called Anarchapulco. One of the things he said there was that "if there are proper functions of the state, I don't think they should be in education, I don't think they should be in health care, I don't think they should be in most of the things they're in, but I do see a reasonable case for some national infrastructure and for defence".[57] One of the things that holds him back from being an anarchist, he said, was that he doesn't like the "disrespect" that he feels anarchists sometimes show toward the military.[58] Canadian expat Jeff Berwick, who puts on the conference, removed him from the list of Anarchapulco 2017 speakers "due to his [Milo's] 'statism'."[59]

July 2016 permanent Twitter ban

Milo's Twitter account @nero, which had over 300,000 followers, was permanently shut down in July 2016, meaning that he has been permanently banned from Twitter. Milo's account was banned after he gave his take on black Ghostbusters star Leslie Jones. He remained defiant, stating: "It's not racist to point out that a movie f****** s***s [is not that good]."[60] Richard Spencer has said: "Look, I supported people like Milo, when they were banned from Twitter, but Milo was in engaging in something, uh, that could be called harassment. Again, I totally think he should have stayed."[61] "New Statesman" says that Milo "maintained a secret account, @caligula".[20]

Views

Civil rights

During an interview on 6 July 2016[62] with Joe Rogan, Milo criticised "Time" magazine for calling the transgender movement "the new civil rights frontier",[63] saying: "Well I'm sorry, no, f*** you, civil rights is about black people. Stop trying to take it. It's not about women, it's not about gays and it's not about f*****g trannies. Civil rights is about black people."[64]

Donald Trump

During a talk with Joe Rogan on 30 September 2015, Milo said he liked Donald Trump, but didn't "want him in the White House". He then said to Joe: "Don't tell anyone this."[65] Later on, Milo, who is Republican,[7] endorsed Donald Trump for President, saying: "He’s the drag queen you can vote for."[66] After Donald's missile strike on Syria on 6 April 2017, Milo wrote in a Facebook post: "There comes a day in every child's life when his Daddy bitterly disappoints him."[67]

Feminism and women

Milo opposes what he calls the "nasty, lesbianic, misandrous, hateful feminist movement", which he believes is cancer.[68][69] He has suggested that because he is gay, he is able to give disinterested advice on the subject of feminism: "I don’t care if you’re thin or fat as a woman, I don’t want to f*** you either way."[70] In his opinion, "about the only thing Saudi Arabia gets right" is their ban on women drivers.[71]

Homosexuality

He has said that "we" gay men have higher IQs than heterosexuals.[72] According to Milo, "people with very high IQs are more likely to engage in aberrant" behaviours and gays are overrepresented in politics, art, musical composition, invention and conquest.[73] In an article he wrote for "Breitbart News" titled "I'm Sooo Bored of Being Gay", he said he was going to "make a go of being straight", and asked people to wish him luck.[74] He is of the view that gay people receive preferential treatment[74] and that they have been "tamed and turned into pets by the progressive Left".[24] In spite of the fact that he himself professes to be homosexual, he has said: "I don't entirely believe in lesbians."[75]

Islam and immigration

He has urged Americans not to "go the same way as Germany and the UK" in terms of Muslim immigration.[76] He has said: "It isn't radical Islam, it's Islam that is the problem."[68] However, he is in no way opposed to mass immigration to the West from Third World countries in general, only Muslim immigration. He very much likes immigration from India, for example.[77] (A little less than 15% of the population of India was Muslim in April 2015.)[78] In his view, Indian immigrants are the "best citizens" of the UK. "I would rather Indians move next to me than working class white people, frankly, 'cause they work harder, they pay their taxes, they're better people," he says. On the other hand, he thinks Muslim Turks in Germany have not integrated, which he cites as one reason why he opposes Muslim immigration.[77] After Omar Mateen's attack on the gay nightclub Pulse,[79] Joe Rogan asked Milo if he thought Islam would ever go through an Enlightment. Milo expressed skepticism: "I think it's highly unlikely that Islam will ever get to it. I don't think it's ever going to engage properly with the modern world, I think it just needs to be eradicated." He then added: "And I've come to this conclusion after Orlando."[80]

Libertarianism

On the subject of libertarianism, Milo has made statements that appear contradictory, unless his worldview changed at some point or he sees subcategories within libertarianism. During an interview with Bill Maher on 17 February 2017, Milo called himself a libertarian.[81] During his interview with Alex Jones on 8 February 2017,[15] Milo described himself as a "cultural libertarian".[16] During an interview with D.D. Guttenplan of "The Nation"On 16 October 2016, he called libertarians "a joke" . When asked why he thought this, he said:

Libertarians are children. Libertarians are people who have given up looking for an answer. This whole "everybody do what they want" is code for "leave me to do what I want." It’s selfish and childish. It’s an admission that you have given up trying to work out what a good society would look like, how the world should be ordered and instead just retreated back into selfishness. That’s why they’re so obsessed with weed, Bitcoin, and hacking.[82]

Male circumcision

Male is in favor of male babies undergoing circumcision and calls it "good grooming".[83] He laughs at people who call it "male genital mutilation".[84]

Sex reassignment surgery

During his talk with Joe Rogan on 6 July 2016, Milo said this about sex reassignment surgery:

I very firmly firmly believe that we will look back on this period in time -- like we do now on Victorian electroshock therapy[85] -- and wonder how we could ever have been so monstruously callous as to allow these people who have mental illnesses to mutilate their bodies -- and of course how idiotic and authoritarian it was for us to expect the taxpayers to pick up the bill.[86]

The alt-right

Milo considers the alt-right to be "a new, populist, conservative and libertarian movement".[87] He parts company with the alt-Right when it comes to foreign wars; the alt-right is non-interventionist, whereas Milo wants America to police the world and spread democracy.[88][89][90] An article for "Breitbart" titled "An Establishment Conservative's Guide To The Alt-Right", which Milo jointly authored with Allum Bokhari on 29 March 2016 , called Richard Spencer's website alternativeright.com "a center of alt-right thought".[90] After Hailgate, in December 2016, Milo said: "[Jesse Jackson] doesn't like the Jews very much, he's a bit like Richard Spencer with a tan."[91] Milo has said that Jared Taylor is someone with "a kind and sweet manner. He's not, you know, some skinhead with a Twitter account."[92] Milo estimates the "genuinely racist, anti-Semitic" element of the alt-right to be around 2 to 5 percent.[93] According to Milo himself, he differs from the alt-right on three things:

  1. Zionism. Milo describes himself as a "fairly unreconstructed Zionist", whereas the alt-right dislikes "foreign entanglements".
  2. George W. Bush. Milo likes George and was for the Iraq War, the alt-Right does not like George and was against the Iraq War.
  3. Male homosexuality.[94]

Yiannopoulos Privelege Grant

The Yiannopoulos Privelege Grant is "a scholarship exclusively available to white men who wish to pursue their post-secondary education on equal footing with their female, queer and ethnic minority classmates". The Twitter account for the grant is @PrivelegeGrant and applicants can get in touch via its website. Milo has said the following:

I understand that our focus on white men will strike some people as controversial or even offensive. Good. It’s time to re-examine the facts, because they don’t support the current media narrative that women and ethnic minorities are some kind of oppressed victim class. If there’s a patriarchy, it’s not doing a very good job of protecting male interests, is it? It’s men who need the help now — and we’re going to give it to them.[95]

Margaret MacLennan, a Canadian conservative YouTube personality, had been appointed as director of the grant by Milo. She quit in March 2016, saying she wasn't being paid and was unsure of how the money from donors was being managed. She was offered $500, but said: "Since I was unable to verify that the money would indeed be coming from Milo’s pocket and not from the donors, I politely declined."[96]

On 31 March 2017, the Yiannopoulos Privilege Grant announced on its website that it had awarded "pilot project grants of $2,500 each" to 10 people and that the money would be given directly to their schools in the summer of 2017 for fall. The site says another "round of grants will be made available later in 2017".[97] The original plan had been to disburse $125,000 via 50 grants of $2,500 during the 2016-2017 school year. On 21 January 2016, according to an article in "Breitbart News", the bulk of that $125,000 had been already raised.[95] According to "The Daily Beast", by 18 August 2016, the grant had raised between $100,000 and $250,000.[98]

Likes and dislikes

Milo has described himself as "a gay Jew who never shuts up about his black boyfriends".[76] When he visited the University of Houston on 19 September 2016, he showed the audience the cover of a movie titled "Poor Little White Guy", whose cast members appeared to be 7 young black males and 1 young white male and whose details he did not make known.[94] He very much dislikes ginger, poor women.[99] At the University of Central Florida in September 2016, he told a male ginger student he was "five times more likely" than a non-ginger student to become a "radical jihadi" and called gingers "less attractive on average" than non-gingers.[100]
